Select the correct sentence from the following.
1. A. He made a blunder mistake.
B. I have learnt this lesson word by word.
C. She does not know swimming.
D. He got his daughter married.
Ans: If you look at the first sentence . He made a blunder mistake. It is wordy sentence. Because blunder is the synonym for mistake. It should either be blunder or mistake. Redundancy of words should be avoided while forming the sentence.
In the second sentence I have learnt this lesson word by word. Here word by word is a wrong phrase. It should be word for word. But is learned or learnt is right? Both are correct. In USA they say learned.
She does not know swimming. It should be She does not know how to swim.
And here we arrive at the correct answer of all. That is D He got his daughter married.
2. A. The average male investor expects to see all his investment stocks moving up. And they are often disappointed.
B. The people in my country are smarter than in other countries.
C. The number of failures of product in final quality inspection are increasing every year.
D. Before restructuring a firm, the CEO must consider the employee.
Ans: . The average male investor expects to see all his investment stocks moving up. And they are often disappointed. The plural and singular subject. No parallelism maintained throughout the sentence.
The people in my country are smarter than in other countries. It seems corrct.
The number of failures of product in final quality inspection are increasing every year. This is subject-verb error in sentence formation. The subject The number of failures of product is singular and doesn’t agree with are.
Before restructuring a firm, the CEO must consider the employee. Article error as we are not talking about one particular CEO.
